Laser Cutter

The goal is to build a completely custom 80W CO2 laser cutter with a 40'“ x 40” working area

 

Custom 60" x 60" Aluminum Frame

The frame is built with 2020 aluminum extrusion to allow for modularity and ease of assembly

Electronics:

1 x Cloudray Ruida Co2 Laser Controller

3 x TB6600 Stepper Motor Drivers

1 x 24V Power Supply to power the drivers and controller

1 x 80W 35KV power supply to power the laser

Custom 40” x 40” Bed

Due to the extreme size of the work space, a custom bed was designed. CNCed Aluminum rails were used to support the hex sheet as well as increase the rigidity of the bed

 

Custom Aluminum Rails were machined to stiffen the bed

The railed were routed on a HAAS SR-100 Sheet router out of 1/4” aluminum sheets. Each rail took about an hour to machine

Dual Motor X-Axis

Y-Axis

Y-Axis motor is mounted directly to the laser head with the belt tucked into the 2020 extrusion. The rollers are used as belt tensioners
